Toast Update: I have never seen such a big transformation in just 24 hours. Toast is so active and her appetite is so much better today. Her fins have unclamped and her personality has really started to shine through :)
Thank you :))
This is Toast. I found her in the back of the shelves at a local Pet smart. She is probably the smallest betta I have ever had and is about the size of my previous baby betta. Her fins are clamped, she’s clearly stressed and underfed. I decided to take her and house her in a spare take with some stress coat, warm water, bloodworms for dinner and aquarium salt. Poor little girl. I would have felt so guilty leaving her there to die. Welcome to the betta whisperer family Toast.
Let me make known that I did talk to the manager before I grabbed this little girl. They had no compassion whatsoever and had planned on putting her down. So I got her marked down to $0.50. She was worth it.

I reblog this cat every year around Halloween time. I am ready.
TurboRoo, a chihuahua born without its front legs, was given a 3D printed cart made by San Diego firm 3dyn so he could train to be a service dog for disabled children.
I think we could all use these pics today.
This makes me really happy.
I didn’t know there were twenty thousand vegans on tumblr!!!
You can be against animal cruelty and not be a vegan
You can be against animal cruelty and not be a vegan
Also given the fact some vegans wilfully neglect their pet’s diet for personal belief reasons you can in fact be a vegan and be ok with animal cruelty when its convenient for you.
^^^^ Reblogging especially for that last comment.
Please help if you can! My poor little Potash is sick. I was wondering what you guys think it is? I have done reaserch but can only find info on Columnaris. I don’t think it is. It is a pink raw patch with spokes of white perpendicular to the body. It looks like mold. How should I treat? I would love to do the Maracyn I & II but I’d have to get it shipped which would take a week and a half so I’m pretty limited to what the chain petstores have.
I have him in a 10gal hospital tank with daily water changes and aquarium salt. There is a filter and a blubber (I read bacterial infections hate air) there is a heater but I don’t have it plugged in because I read keeping the water close to 74F helps slow down both bacterial and fungal infections. (75-76 is the closest I can get) He’s been in since Friday evening and since I saw no change I started him on some Tetracycline I had around on Sunday evening. With the salt it doubled in size every day but the medication seems to have stopped the growing but has not improved him yet. He has not eaten at all since Thursday and is getting thin. Swimming is very hard for him and he struggles to get air but he still tries hard so I know he is trying.
He has been living in a 20gal heavily planted tank (pre-cycled) with a filter and heater (80F) since the 28th of July, with 25% water changes weekly and I never skip as it’s my favorite part. pH is 7.2 and KH was 11dKH I think (Florida) (my GH test doesn’t work :( ). He was bred by a local breeder here in Central Florida. He came very healthy from a nice lfs where they had them in bowls and did 2x daily water changes. At the end of last month I noticed him slow down after I had done a water change and changed some plants around. He showed no other signs and was eating normally.
I noticed him decline a few weeks ago and decided to do a 100% changed (20min drip acclimate into both the 5gal holding bucket and then another 20min to go back to the clean tank) I had noticed while I began cleaning my thermometer was cracked! When I put my back up in it read 86F! I cleaned some algae off my heater during that original water change and somehow popped the ring that had the adjustment temps on it and it moved so it was no longer on 80. I adjusted the temp “back” to 80 thinking I had accidentally moved the switch instead and my cracked thermometer still read 80. So he was in 86F temps for weeks. For the next few days after fixing it he seemed to slowly improve then on Friday I noticed the fluffy white patch. I’m not sure if that much of a temp jump would do this but it’s the only thing that changed.
If I wasn’t clear on anything feel free to ask I just want him to get better! I feel so bad for not noticing the thermometer.
It looks like culumnaris or cotton wool disease. Which can be brought on by poor water quality, over stocking, or high nitrate or ammonia levels.
Although given the information you have provided, I have an idea on how he contracted it. Fluctuation of water temperatures can put stress on a betta and lower their immune systems making them more prone to contracting this nasty disease.
From what I can see this seems to be a fairly severe case of cotton. I’ve always been told to treat with maracyn and maracyn II for extreme cases. Also what you read about bacteria and air is correct. So great job setting up the bubbler!
What I would do is keep your water temp at 82 degrees and continue treating with the antibacterial medicine you have until that treatment is finished according to the bottle. In the mean time I would order maracyn and maracyn II. Try feeding your guy peas or frozen blood worms. Anything to try to spike his appetite.
I hope this helps, it’s a tricky disease to treat with out the proper medication. But if you act quick you should be able to save your guy. Best of luck and happy fish keeping!
Looking for some info on what could possibly be happening to Patriot’s eye. It has been getting worse and although I’m prepared to fill his needs, I would like to have more of an idea as to what is causing this.
Any help from the followers?
Cont. just don’t move his stuff around too much, with Bruce if I move his stuff he will spend two hours bumping into stuff and flavoring at it. I hope patriot and you find this useful, if you have any more questions just send me an ask :)
That was very helpful, thank you! He is a half moon plakat this was just a weird angle and I caught him mid-tail flipping haha. This photo just showed off his eye the best.
BC of his handicap I’ll probably keep him around, along with a few other originals. Compared to the ones that come and go on my blog. Thank you for your response :)
Thank you. Although I did receive se negativity over it there were also a lot of people supporting me.
Either way I’m happy with it and if it means taking a betta out of a bowl from someone and placing him in here or buying a rescue and nursing them back to health, let me tell you his quality of life went up a lot.
I take pride in my tank and my blog. Thank you.
