The Betta Whisperer
Sooo.. This happened. And I love it. It’s a used display 20 long I got for $15 and I’m so happy with my decision.

Unfortunately the dividers I had before didn’t fit in here so I had to make these dividers myself with the help of my wonderful boyfriend. Not too shabby.

Next step is a light that actually fits the length of the tank!

You can really tell how much more Atlas trusts me at this point, where as Zeus is rarely captured by the camera because he still sees me as a threat. At least Atlas loves me for the food machine that I am to him. ๐Ÿด

So it also looks like Patriot is somewhat blind in his right eye. It almost looks like heavy scaling growing over it. He’s been like this from when I first got him and I’m thinking that may have to do with why he was on a desk at petco with other dying and dead fish.

He is still extremely responsive and his appitite hasn’t changed. I’m glad he is in my care where I can watch over him and protect him from harm.

Hey there, I had a quick question for you :) My mother in law has an oscar (He's about 8-9 inches) living in a 10gal tank that hasn't been cleaned in god knows how long. She is moving and I offered to take him as she was planning on tossing him in a nearby pond. I have a 55 gal tank that I'm currently setting up for him. My biggest concern is how dull he is and how many scales appear to be missing. Is there anything I need to do to help him get healthy again? and how should I move him? Thanks!

I would go to thebettawhisperer and ask. Also browse through her tag for her rehabilitated Oscar named atlas and look at his story.

Whatever you do, go slow and donโ€™t medicate unnecessarily.

Whoa that poor Oscar. Luckily for him you are taking him under your wing with the proper conditions an Oscar should live happily in. You mentioned dull colors and possibly missing scales, I wouldn’t medicate your new guy at all. Clean water, sun dried krill and stresscoat should honestly do the trick to get him back to his happy and healthy self!!

If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! This hasn’t been my first go around with rescue Oscars!

The progress he has made just astounds me sometimes. To think of Atlas as some scrawny little beat up Walmart fish who would be lucky to last the night, does not even come close to fitting him anymore. He’s so beautiful and so strong. I love him with all my heart.
